Lazy

I am so sorry, I am so lazy lately.

Actually, I haven’t really thought about blogging in a long time.  I’d think of it in passing like… “Oh I haven’t blogged in a long time” but then I’d just shrug and not do it anyways.

The truth is, my job has been killing me.  Definitely a slow and painful death.  In hoping to make moves that will allow me to at some point in my life live independently, I think I have made a deal with the Grimm Reaper.  Haha, Halloween reference!

I work 44 hours a week, sometimes I have only one day off and sometimes I am lucky to have 2.  Even when I do have 2 days off though, they are never together.  It’s like 1 day off, work 2 more days and then another day off.  It’s painful!  When you work as much as I do, and a job where you never get to sit and are always running around, it takes more than 1 day to recuperate.  I end up going back to work always tired #perpetuallytired.

But I should be grateful right?  There are many people out there who don’t even have jobs.  But at the end of the day, I know I have never been more exhausted and miserable than I am now.  I am also sick, but I feel that it has only been so long and drawn out because I have no chance to recover.  Even the doctor has said he is helpless when it comes to my illness, I just have to wait.

Life is so awful right now, tired, cranky, sick, want to see my friends but can’t, spend time with my boyfriend but know that I am falling short.  I don’t even look at makeup or care about what I am wearing so much anymore… and eating?  I’m lucky if I eat once per day, I always feel too tired to make food and never feel hungry. When will I get a break in this life?

Fall Boots

One of my favourite parts of the fall is the wonderful, cozy, fall fashion!  I especially love boots!  Unfortunately, boots don’t like me and I have a very difficult time finding boots that actually fit properly.  I was cursed blessed with muscular legs, and unfortunately I find that boots tend to be more shaped for girls with no leg muscle at all.  I have a hard time finding boots that will fit over my calves, but I do find some occasionally.

I think that one essential for boots is that they are not fake material.  I’m sorry, but I can spot a pair of boots that is faux leather or suede from a mile away, I know my leathers!  Yes it is a bit of an investment to purchase a pair that is made from authentic material, but they will definitely last a lot longer and take much more of a beating.

The key is to find boots that are a classic style.  Don’t go overboard with design or you risk them falling out of style.  Then where has your investment gotten you? Nowhere if you can’t wear it anymore. And let’s be real… wearing boots that always have tons of buckles or studs, etc, in them gets really tacky after a couple of days.

Enter my favourite pair of fall boots.  My Nine West’s or Westies for short are beautiful black suede with a perfect height wooden heel and rubber bottom. They really were a steal, especially for $70!

I’ll list the reasons why I feel these are the perfect boots.

  1. Durable suede!  And being that they are black, they fit all sorts of outfits and won’t go out of colour style.
  2. The heel is high, but not slut high.
  3. The heel is wooden, so it won’t get wrecked by the elements and I don’t have to worry about scratching off fabric or anything.
  4. The sole is rubber, so they are slip condition ready.
  5. They don’t dazzle you with design because the design elements are subtle.  The boots look like classy black boots from afar, but up close you will notice some special touches.  This ensures that they will stay in style for a while.
  6. The toe isn’t square or pointy, but rather a soft round. It keeps them looking sweet and are super comfortable around my toes.
  7. They are a great height, coming up to just past half of my calf. This means I can wear them with a skirt or dress, or I can still slip them under pants.
In pretty good shape for being nearly 3 years old!  See what I mean by saying that the material holds up?  The suede is quite thick so I do wear these boots in the winter as well.  Surprisingly, they only have small salt stains which I could get out if I wasn’t too lazy to actually get out my suede cleaning set.
Well, enough staring at my boots, go and get your own!

Lightening

Fall is upon us!  The leaves here are changing colours and falling.  This post is short and sweet because I feel bad about not posting anything recently.  I’ve been pretty sick, and busy helping my mom prepare for her wedding.  I’ve certainly learned a lot!

Soo I guess that one good thing to look forward to in the fall (because cold and snow are not things that I look forward to…) is that my summer tan is now leaving.  I absolutely love a natural summer tan, it just looks so great and healthy, but when my skin is lighter I do feel that I have a bit more freedom with makeup choices.

I find that certain colours do not show up all that great on my skin, but they show up great on lighter or darker skin tones because they have a more contrasted base to appear on.  Simply put, my skin tone is sometimes too close to the shades I’m hoping to work with, and then they don’t show up very well no matter which shades I’m working with.

Another great thing that I am looking forward to are the new variety of lip and cheek colours I can use.  I really love light lip and cheek colours, but again they look strange when my skin is tanned!

What are you looking forward to?

This morning I watched the premiere of one of my favourite shows, Survivor.  Thank you Mark Burnett.  Some of my friends snicker at this, “Why the heck do you like that show?”.  The simple reason is that it I like that it displays physical and mental capability.  I can only wish that I was given the types of tests they were given.  Looks like I should start doing more physical activity.

But this post isn’t about the show, rather, it’s about something I realized while watching it.

Meet Semhar.  Semhar is one of the contestants on the show, and despite the fact that she was the first person voted to Redemption Island this season, I admire her.

I was captivated by her early in the episode, when everybody was introducing themselves to their tribe mates.  She explained to them that she was a poet and performed spoken word.  Impressed, they asked her to perform something on the spot, which she did.  A few minutes later they cut to a private segment where she revealed that she didn’t know who she was without it and that she had been performing since she was 15.

I admire her so much, the way she has found something that she is so passionate about and stuck with it.  I feel like my entire life I have been pushed into directions to do certain things until I barely know what I like anymore.  I at first tried to pursue science in university only to finally realize partway through that I just couldn’t do it.  I nearly flunked out of university, but settled with an arts degree that matched the credits I had already obtained, simply because I had no choice but to finish university in my allotted 4 years.

It wasn’t about finishing and studying what I wanted to do, it was about finishing in the time frame that was deemed acceptable to other people, and studying what was easily available at the time.  In hindsight, when I was in high school, I never even researched degrees or what I could do with them.  I didn’t even know there was such thing as a Communications degree until my 3rd year, apparently it’s quite common.

So now after watching Semhar on the screen, it’s made me think that I need to continue with the reevaluation of my life that I have been trying to do recently.  I have a vision of how I’d like to live, what the future should look like, but I simply cannot wrap my mind around what career suits what I see.

I feel very strongly towards makeup and fashion, but I’ve been reading books about fashion design and strongly feel like I don’t want to be a designer.  Rather, I would enjoy selling the clothes, making people look as beautiful as they feel.  Alternatively, I am also interested in the business side of things, and could see myself in advertising and sales, something that allows my creativity to flourish.

Could I be a stylist, makeup artist? I feel that the logical conclusion for all of this is that in order to pursue anything, I need to move to a bigger city, my eye is on Toronto.

I guess my first step is to do some research, revamp my resume and do some job searching.  I will settle for nothing less than a management position, or a sales with commission role.  Those are my minimums.

Thank you Semhar for reintroducing me to myself with your introduction to yourself.

Makeup Tutorial: Early Autumn

Tags

Ahhh… the days are still sunny, but the nights are cool and cuddly.  It’s the time of year where we appreciate the outdoors and the sunlight, it’s not too hot and the fashions are awesome!

Welcome to my first makeup tutorial, Early Autumn… for your eyes!

I’m a fan of simplicity.  This tutorial uses only a few things:

  • 2 eyeshadow colours
  • 1 eyeliner
  • 1 mascara
  • 1 brush
Sounds easy, no?  Let’s begin!

Apply Eyeliner

Apply a thin line of eyeliner to the top lid only!!!  Don’t be too extreme with your end, a small flick to make it interesting works fine.  I am using a black liquid eyeliner (I know looks grey-ish because of the flash).

I prefer liner with a felt tip brush.  The brush is stiffer so you don’t have to worry about it changing shape in the middle of your application.

Need help doing liner?  I will post a tutorial on how I do my liquid liner later.^_^V

Apply all-over eyeshadow

As you can see I am using a very light shimmery lavender colour.  It is quite light, but because it is somewhat tinted it is much less harsh than white and more suitable for just a slight brightness.

Don’t apply it all-over quite yet.  I am only applying up to the crease.

This may also help give you an idea of where I stopped with my shadow.  The dark purple line indicates where I stopped my application, and also where my crease is.

So why are we stopping here?  This style is supposed to be soft, not crazy noticeable.  Therefore, the intense eyeshadow application is reserved for the lid that is below the crease only.  From the crease up to the brow bone, I will blend the colour from the lower lid upwards.  This means that I am not coating my brush with any new shadow, I am only using it to pull up some of what is on my lid already.

Notice how high I’ve gone with blending only?  No need for extra shadow!

Here is a side by side comparison so that you can see the difference that blending upwards made!

Apply definition shadow

My definition shadow is a beautiful grey-ish purple colour.

You will be applying this shadow into the crease. Make sure that your brush is coated well!

When I am applying shadow I keep the eye that I am working on partially open by tilting my head back.  Since my lights are above the mirror, I find this helps illuminate my lids better and I am able to use both eyes to see what I am doing.

Go right into the outer corner of your eyelid with the definition shadow.  Don’t be afraid to push on your crease, as long as you aren’t ramming the brush into your eye, it doesn’t hurt one bit!

Using a windshield wiping motion to apply the definition shadow into the crease.  Make sure that you don’t go too far into the inner eyelid with your dark shadow or you will darken your eyes too much.  Use your iris as a marker like I am.

Apply some extra definition shadow into the corner of your eyes if you desire.  It will give you a slightly smokey effect.  The more you apply, the darker it will become and the more the effect.

Here is an image of the end result.  At this time, clean up any shadow that has fallen onto your cheeks (fallout).  Note how much darker my outer corner is compare to the crease, even though I used the same colour shadow.

Another picture after eyeshadow application.

Apply Mascara

Use your favourite mascara to accent your lashes.  I try not to advertise brands too heavily here, but I absolutely love this one! It truly does make your eyelashes look longer, and my eyelashes have also naturally grown longer since I’ve been using it.  I swear by it and I’m not even being paid to!

Need proof?

Before

After (application to upper and lower).

I did my best to keep the angle the same.  As you can see, my lashes look like they are nearly touching my eyebrow!

Show the world!

Now it’s time for you to go out and show everybody the great job you did!  Your eyes should look brighter and more defined, I like to call it urban chic!  This is definitely a wearable style for work.

Camho*

Bad shot, it was so bright out.

Any questions?

Feel free to ask me any questions or tell me anything that you have trouble understanding.  Since this is the first tutorial, I would love constructive criticism!
